5 Benefites Of
HomeSchooling
Many people cringe when they hear the word homeschooling. They feel that it is a term only for people living in the amazon or in rural areas where schools are not established. This article will share 5 benefits that homechooling has which other schooling systems do not have.
1. Being able to control what your child is learning and when they are learning it, and how they are learning about it. This is vital for any parent who wants their child to become a righteous, pious person. Garbage in, garbage out. What the schools choose to teach our kids nowadays can be very disgusting and inappropriate for them. Why do I know this I went to public schools, and am regretful full of how much times was wasted on books, stories or videos of things that I found inappropriate, nor productive to know. These were topics really that did not benefit me.
2
Making sure that your teaching style is one that is tailored to your child’s learning abilities. This is vital for your child’s success. Each of our children learn a bit differently, and in order for them to love learning and want to continue to learn we must discover their learning styles and try to teach them in that way inshAllaah.
3
Help your child love learning. By being there to teach your child and beingsupportive you will be bale to help them have a love for learning versus just making them memorize facts that they will never use. For example, when I amdoing science with one of my kids, and realize that he isn’t get the concept, we go to google, and search for a video on that topic. This helps him visually see what we were just talking about. So he reads about it, and then see’s it in the video. This helps him understand the concept much deeper.
4
Keep your children away from negative influences which can destroy their lives. Nowadays you hear about kids doing drugs as early as 10 years old. Early peer pressure of drugs, alcohol, smoking, bullying, food, and immodest behavior is what is ruling the schools nowadays. Our kids are taught to be disrespectful to their teachers and parents, and defy adults. So much evil is out there, and unfortunately much of it is coming to our schools, and influencing our kids. You’re a product of your environment, so a negative environment will make you negative, versus a positive environment will make you positive, inshAllaah.
5
Make a schedule that fits your lifestyle. For example, we all wake up for tajjud and pray, and we pray our other 5 prayers, and in between we study, take classes, do projects, take field trips, travel for events, etc. When everyone is stuck home from school on a snow day, and don’t study we study, so that when spring and summer are here we can have more outside time and activities. When the kids are sick the rest until they get bored, then they do something creative so they are not bored.
Can homeschooled kids be Leaders?
Another misconception about homeschooling that must be spoken about is that many people assume because you are homeschooled you have no leadership skills, nor are you mature. I have seen first hand kids who are homeschooled become the best of the best leaders, mashAllaah. They are motivated, inspired, and self starters. They don’t need to be begged, scolded or forced to study, work or make something happen.
According to one doctor, he said “Children who are homeschooled "... may be more socially mature and have better leadership skills than other children ..
Richard G. Medlin, Ph.D. (NHERI)
The reason people are saying this is because they see the results of homeschooled kids as kids and as adults. I must admit I was never a believer of homeschooling until I met some homeschooled kids. I was amazed at how intelligent they were and how social and yet determined they were. I would then ask them about their upbringing and I would be so envious of how they learned many things. However I still did not imagine that one day I would do it, for I felt that as a parent you must have some special skill to take on this BIG challenge. God was preparing me by bringing these types of experiences my way. SubhanAllaah (Glory be to God) for His guidance. I can never be thankful enough. So you might be thinking well, what does all of this have to do with homeschooled kids becoming great leaders? You see when I began homeschooling I had a vision for my children to become great leaders inshAllaah (God willing) one day. So my journey began…today I have an 11 year old who is an author of 5 books, a speaker, makes videos, writes articles, blogs and is on social media to help inspire people. Alhamdullilah (All Praise belongs to Allaah (God)). My 7 year old and 6 year old is following in her footsteps, Alhamdullilah. My point is what we give our children is what they will become inshAllaah. The better we give them and surround them with, the better they will turn out inshAllaah. If you’re ready to take a leap in your life, and make a difference in your child’s life then BEGIN now inshAllaah!
Do kids who were Homeschooled help with community service when they are adults?
Many people think because your homeschooled you’re not socialized, therefore you do not contribute to your community when you become an adult. What a major myth! According to HSLDA,
“Homeschooling statistics show 71% of home taught adults participate in at least one on-going community service/37% of similar general population.”
You see it is not amazing these results, because when your homeschooled your taught many things about real life, and about the importance of helping not only your community, but society as a whole. I know that as a homeschooling parent I teach my children all of the time how they can be of service to society. To help others is like helping yourself. Not only is it obligatory for Muslims to do this, but there is so much gratification in helping others. There are so many organizations that you can be part of, that it is amazing. There is no shortage of donating your time and expertise. I am hoping that you have realized that homeschooled kids are not only socialized but they are very giving, because they were taught to give at a home where it is natural to help and give to one another. If you’re on the borderline to homeschool, JUST DO IT! Yes, it will be a bit challenging and difficult in the beginning, but eventually it will get easier and more fun. Know that you must invest in your child if you want a great return for you investment. What you put in is what you get out; invest your time, your heart, and your knowledge to raise great leaders that we desperately need!
